Alan Hickey, N.C.T.M.B. Florida L.M.T.

Alan Hickey received his certification in Massage Therapy from Emerald Coast Massage School, Fort Walton Beach Florida, in June of 2004, his national certification from the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (N.C.B.T.M.B.) and his state of Florida license to practice massage in Jan 2005. Since Jan 2005 he has continued his education in massage by becoming certified in infant massage, hot stone massage, pre and post pregnancy massage, sports massage, and several other massage modalities and techniques. He is currently enrolled in Oklahoma City University as a senior pursuing a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Professional Studies with an emphasis in Business.

 

He just completed a sixteen month massage instructorship in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where, in addition to teaching massage, he became involved in curriculum development, course scheduling, marketing and promotion, spa area/services development and design, and massage business applications for the nationally certified school. He is currently involved in the Oklahoma coalition for massage licensure for the state of Oklahoma. Prior to teaching massage, he directed the creation/operation of a day spa in the Destin Florida area that included contributing to the design, building, equipping, and day to day operation of the spa. As Corporate Vice President and Spa Director, his duties included equipment purchase and installation, hiring and management of all personnel, marketing and promotion to include print advertising, televised publicity, and numerous special events. He designed and published the spa menu and all printed material for the spa. He performed massage therapist duties at the spa. His own personal versions of the Hot Stone Massage and Couple's Synchronous Massage, with two massage therapists performing identical massage movements and techniques in perfect unison, set the standard along the Emerald Coast of Florida.

 

He practices as a massage therapist in the Oklahoma City metro area and in several of the surrounding cities throughout the state.

 

Some of his Modalities/Techniques include; Swedish, Deep Tissue, Pre and Post Pregnancy, Infant, Thai, Sports, Hot Stone, Neuro-Muscular Therapy, Trigger Point, Reflexology, Lymphatic drainage, Spa Clay/ Mud/ Algae/ Seaweed body services, Aromatherapy treatments, and Hawaiian Lomi Lomi.

 

His plans include publishing a book in early 2008 that will take massage therapists step by step through the arduous journey of opening their own spa business. He also will complete a Master's degree in Business in early 2009.

Dr. Linda Simon

Dr. Linda Simon , a practicing Chiropractic physician in Scottsdale, Arizona has co-owned Simon Chiropractic, P.C. an Interdisciplinary Health Clinic with her husband, Dr. Ira Simon for twenty years. Born, Linda Bloomberg in Brooklyn, New York, Dr. Simon is a magna cum laude graduate from Pace University in New York City with her 1981 degree in Biological Research. With a 1985 diploma from New York Chiropractic College, she and her husband opened Simon Chiropractic as a family practice specializing in complicated cases. Dr. Simon began her writing career immediately after arriving in Arizona as the Health Editor of Today's Arizona Woman and contributing author to Arizona Living Magazine. Hired as an expert case writer, she has also developed extensive Independent Medical Reviews on behalf of the patient and their attorneys and appeared as expert witness in arbitrations. Dr. Simon has contributed much to the Chiropractic community as Executive Secretary for the Chiropractic Association of Arizona and the Arizona Association of Chiropractic for a period of over five years. During this time, she was instrumental in the development of protocol and educating doctors for the advent of the Evaluation and Management Coding. Also, she was an invited member of the small committee that developed the most recent but now obsolete Arizona State Chiropractic oral licensing examination and was instrumental in its administration. Dr. Simon has attended the annual Congress of State Chiropractic Associations (COSCA). For many years, Dr. Simon has been very involved with the Fibromyalgia community as lecturer for The Fibromyalgia Network and local Fibromyalgia support groups. Dr. Robin Mayfield

Dr. Robin Mayfield is a holistic practitioner who is helping to revolutionize women's health care. Dr. Dean L. Smith, D.C., Ph.D.

Dr. Dean Smith

Dr. Smith is a clinical faculty member in the Department of Kinesiology and Health at Miami University. His research interests lie broadly in the area of human movement and coordination. He is interested in how individuals move their spine and extremities in a coordinated fashion to accomplish goal-directed actions. Specifically, Dr. Smith studies the stability and adaptability of these motor control patterns and the factors that impact on these patterns such as exercise, rehabilitation, and chiropractic adjustments.

 

In addition to teaching and research, Dr. Smith also has a private practice of chiropractic in Eaton, Ohio. His articles have been published in such journals as Human Movement Science, Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics, Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, Chiropractic Research Journal, Chiropractic and Osteopathy and The Open Neurology Journal. His training includes a Master’s degree in exercise science, a Doctor of Chiropractic degree and a PhD in brain and cognitive science with a focus on motor control and coordination. Dr. Gary Italia

Dr. Gary Italia

Dr. Gary Italia has Bachelor degrees in human biology and exercise science and a Masters degree in Human Nutrition. He is a licensed nutritionist by the state of Connecticut and teaches nutritional therapeutics (nutrition and disease) and sports nutrition in the Masters program at the University of Bridgeport. Dr. Italia has recently completed his Ph.D. in nutrition and holds certifications in nutrition and exercise (CCN, CSCS). His Ph.D. concentration was in anti-aging and using nutrition and lifestyle to slow the aging process. He is currently working on two books on anti-aging and they should be available shortly.

 

Dr. Italia is a chiropractic physician who is a Diplomate in neurology and nutrition. With his partner, he maintains a four-clinic multi-disciplinary chiropractic group. Dr. Italia has been practicing chiropractic for 14 years and nutrition and exercise for even longer. He practices nutrition with both patients and fitness club members where he is the staff nutritionist. He has given many various lectures and has even organized and ran martial arts training camps. Dr. Italia is a former competitive bodybuilder who has worked with elite bodybuilders, boxers, wrestlers, and martial artists. He has practiced kickboxing and martial arts for over 20 years. He is currently vice president of an American karate organization and public relations director for an international karate organization. He is the physician for these organizations and has been a physician for the American bodybuilding team as well.

Dr. Robert Schwer

Dr. Robert Schwer

Dr. Robert Schwer, a graduate of National College of Chiropractic, was valedictorian of his class in 1987. His under-graduate training at the State University of New York at Buffalo emphasized cell and molecular biology. Dr. Brett L. Kinsler

Dr. Brett Kinsler

Dr. Brett L. Kinsler earned his B.A. from the University of Rochester where he also completed post-graduate work in microbiology and immunology. He received his D.C. degree from the University of Bridgeport after graduating summa cum laude, salutatorian and was awarded the Joseph Janse Research Award for working to develop the student research program at the College of Chiropractic. Dr. Kinsler is a member of the American Chiropractic Association and former district vice-president and state delegate of the New York State Chiropractic Association. He is a certified instructor for the American Red Cross and a published author in the journal Pain. Dr. Kinsler's past experiences range from research at a university pain treatment center, international clinical research in non-ionizing early detection of breast cancer, running pharmaceutical clinical trials, and work in surgical recovery of human organs and tissues for transplant. He is an emergency medical technician, former Director of Operations for an ambulance corps and instructor of emergency medicine for the University of Rochester Department of Pre-hospital Care. Currently serving as an officer on the board of directors of the West Hartford Group, an international chiropractic think tank, Kinsler runs a busy practice with his wife, also a chiropractor, in Rochester, New York.

Dr. Fridinger

Dr. Fridinger

Dr. Fridinger received his chiropractic degree from Northwestern Health Sciences University (NWHSU) in the spring of 1998 and went on to receive his radiology diplomate from NWHSU in the spring of 2001. Since that time he has treated patients through private practice and practice relief and has acted as a radiology consultant to chiropractors. Dr. Fridinger has given many chiropractic and chiropractic assistant post-graduate radiology lectures as well as written journal articles on the radiographic appearance of normal variants of the spine and lower extremity. He is also certified in advanced imaging through the American College of Chiropractic Radiology and was honored to review Yochum and Rowe's Essentials of Skeletal Radiology, 2nd Edition. Currently, when he is not writing radiology articles for ChiroCredit.com, he is reading imaging studies and consulting with clinicians at Consulting Radiologists, Ltd and giving post-graduate lectures.

 

Outside the office, Dr. Fridinger is a tennis, wakeboard, and snowboard enthusiast, but is most proud of his wife, Beth, and three boys, Evan, Caleb and Luke.

Dr. Paul R. Sherman

Dr. Paul Sherman

Dr. Paul R. Sherman received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Nutrition from Park College in Parkville, Missouri and his Doctor of Chiropractic Degree from Cleveland Chiropractic College Kansas City, Missouri. He also completed a one year clinical internship at the Cleveland Chiropractic Clinic and a one year clerkship with Michael Sherman, D.C. He is presently an Associate Professor of Clinical Sciences at the University of Bridgeport, College of Chiropractic in Bridgeport, Connecticut as well as being on the postgraduate faculty of the University of Bridgeport, College of Chiropractic. Dr. Sherman has been published and is an author, writer and instructor for ChiroCredit.com a continuing education website for chiropractic. He is licensed to practice chiropractic by the Connecticut State Board of Chiropractic Examiners and the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners and was in private practice in New Jersey for 16 years.

Warren T. Jahn, DC, MPS, FACO

Dr. Warren T. Jahn

Warren T. Jahn, DC, MPS, FACO graduated from the National College of Chiropractic (NCC) in December 1976. He was one of the first orthopedic residents in chiropractic and was the first acting chairman of the department of orthopedics at NCC's Patient and Research Center. Dr. Jahn received his Master of Professional Studies (MPS) degree concentrating in Biomechanical Trauma from Lynn University in conjunction with the University of Miami Medical School. He has attained board certifications in biomechanical trauma (DAABT), chiropractic orthopedics (DABCO) and sports (DACBSP), forensics (DACFE, FACFE), independent medical examinations (CICE), quality assurance and utilization review (DABQAURP), and chiropractic consulting (DABCC). In the past 25 years he has trained thousands of chiropractors in orthopedics, impairment rating, forensics, sports, IMEs, and federal and state disability programs for nine chiropractic colleges. He has published numerous articles in professional journals and contributed to several chiropractic textbooks. In his specialty practice in Roswell, Georgia he has performed thousands of IMEs and impairment ratings, provided second opinions for his fellow colleagues' patients and recently added functional capacity evaluations for disability, work capacity determinations, and DOT and non DOT examinations.

Leanne N. Cupon, DC, DACRB, DABFP

Dr. Leanne Cupon

Leanne N. Cupon, DC, DACRB, DABFP graduated from the Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport , IA during 1996. Prior to moving to Georgia, her professional time in specialty practice, concentrating in rehabilitation and forensics, was divided between serving as Director of Quality Assurance and Compliance at the multidisciplinary Spine Center in Bethlehem, PA and doctoring in her own facility, Penn Jersey Chiropractic & Rehabilitation Clinic, PC in Phillipsburg, NJ. She is one of the first women chiropractors to have completed the Forensic Science and Manipulation Under Anesthesia Certification programs. Recently she attained board certification from the American Chiropractic Rehabilitation Board. Dr. Cupon is a chiropractor with focused interests on rehabilitation and prevention, and the treatment of personal and work?related injuries as it applies to chiropractic. Her practice is family oriented as she enjoys working with children and adolescents, as well as adults. Dr. Cupon's forensic work includes second opinion examinations. Social Security disability determinations, and impairment ratings.

 

Determination and selective educational pursuits are a requisite for patient care in an evidenced/outcome based era of managed care. Dr. Robert Clyde Affolter

Dr. Robert Clyde Affolter completed his Bachelor of Arts degree with a chemistry major in 1977, at the University of Kansas. He stayed there and went on to complete a Master of Business Administration degree in 1978. After graduating, he worked for IBM for three years. He resigned his position as associate systems engineer in 1981 to attend Palmer College.

 

While attending Palmer, Dr. Affolter took extra-curricular courses in Grostic, Pierce-Stillwagon, and Logan Basic techniques. He was an intern for Dr. E. L. Crowder. He also began his teaching career as a lecturer for the PCC chiropractic technician program. He graduated with honors from PCC in 1984.

 

After graduation, he became a lecturer at Western Washington University and taught business classes in the College of Business and Economics. He opened his chiropractic practice in Bellingham, WA in 1985.

 

In 1998, he co-founded Innate Foundation (www.innatefoundation.com); which is dedicated to improving the human condition and advancing the recognition of Innate Intelligence. Today, Innate Foundation Publishing publishes books and other materials to elevate mankind.

 

In 2002, he published Improving the Odds - From the Crapshoot of Manipulative Therapy to the Innate Chiropractic Adjustment. The book provides his insights into the philosophy, science and art of chiropractic along with an overview of seven chiropractic techniques. He was also admitted to the postgraduate faculty of Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic that year. He taught a "Technique Medley" course, using his book as a text.

 

He was part of the technique panel which updated the clinical practice guidelines, "2003 Clinical Practice Guideline: Vertebral Subluxation in Chiropractic Practice." His articles have appeared in The Chiropractic Journal, The Bellingham Business Journal, and The New Times. His paper, "The Reality of the Mental Realm and Its Clinical Significance" was presented at the ICA's Conference on Philosophical Chiropractic Standards in 2004.

Dr. Angelica Redleaf

Dr. Angelica Redleaf

Dr. Angelica Redleaf is a graduate of New York Chiropractic College and has been a chiropractor in private practice in Providence, Rhode Island since 1978. She graduated with a double degree in Anthropology and Education from Hunter College in NYC and taught in the NYC school system as well as in California. She has studied and researched ethics and the doctor/patient relationship ever since opening her practice. Dr. Kent Stuber

Dr. Stuber obtained a BSc in Cellular, Molecular & Microbial Biology from the University of Calgary before attending the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with Clinic Honours in 2002. He also has an MSc in Health and Social Care Research from the University of Sheffield. He has published research papers in several peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of the Canadian Chiropractic Association, JMPT, Journal of Chiropractic Medicine, the Journal of Chiropractic Humanities, Chiropractic & Osteopathy, and Clinical Chiropractic on a variety of topics including football injury prevention, pre-natal chiropractic care, plantar fasciitis, diagnosis of sacroiliac joint injuries, sports injuries, spinal stenosis, and chiropractic continuing education.

 

Dr. Stuber is an Editorial Board member of the Journal of the Canadian Chiropractic Association and has peer-reviewed for several other journals and conferences including JMPT and ACC RAC. He is an adjunct professor at the CMCC in the Division of Graduate Education and Research and has written numerous online courses for UBCC and CMCC. Most importantly, Dr. Stuber is the proud dad of Morgan and Thomas Stuber and proud husband of Dr. Caterina Lerede.

Dr. Joseph Ferezy, DC, DACAN, FIACN

Dr. Joseph Ferezy

Dr. Ferezy is a native of New York City, New York. He is a 1982 graduate of Northwestern College of Chiropractic (NWCC). He completed a two year residency in clinical science at NWCC, where he later served as an Instructor, and ultimately as an Assistant Professor. He remained at NWCC until 1988. Dr. Ferezy is a Diplomate of the American Chiropractic Academy of Neurology and a Fellow of the International Academy of Chiropractic Neurology. He is author of a chiropractic textbook, “The Chiropractic Neurological Examination” by Aspen Publishers. He contributed a chapter to the textbook, “Advances in Chiropractic” by Mosby Publishers. Dr. Ferezy has published several professional articles, and was awarded a 2nd place “Best Scientific Paper Award” by the American Chiropractic Association Journal of Chiropractic. Dr. Ferezy is the program coordinator and lead lecturer for the Neurology Diplomate Programs for Northwestern Health Science University, New York Chiropractic College and Palmer Chiropractic University. Dr. Ferezy has been the key speaker at hundreds of professional lecture engagements including several in Stockholm Sweden and in the United Kingdom. He has served as a test developer and proctor for the Minnesota Board of Chiropractic Examiners. Dr. Ferezy regularly serves as an expert witness in matters such as malpractice and has served as a chiropractic expert o n behalf of the State of Iowa.

Dr. Ferezy is president of the International Academy of Chiropractic Neurology, and maintains a private practice of chiropractic in Des Moines, Iowa.

Dr. Jan Martensen, DC, PhD, DACBR

Dr. Martensen is a cum laude 1984 graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Ia. He did his internship in departments of chiropractic technique and radiology and residency in diagnostic radiology at Palmer College in Iowa. Following residency Dr. Martensen entered private practice of radiology in 1988 in Toledo, Ohio where he still remains. Dr. Martensen is a Diplomate of the American Chiropractic Board of Radiology (D.A.C.B.R.) and has specialty certification in CT and MRI interpretation. Dr. Martensen graduated from the Medical University of Ohio at Toledo in 2004 with a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Medical Sciences, concentration in radiology.

Dr. Martensen’s professional involvement is extensive. He is past president of the American Chiropractic College of Radiology (ACCR). Dr. Martensen also heads up the ACCR Commission on Radiological Physics and Safety as Commission chair and is a senior physicist for the Commission. He represents the ACCR and American Chiropractic Association (ACA) as a liaison to the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) and Conference of Radiation Control Program Directors (CRCPD). He is also a physicist liaison on the prestigious US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Center for Device and Radiological Health (CDRH) Nationwide Evaluation of X-ray Trends Committee (NEXT) and is contributor to multiple books published jointly by FDA and CRCPD regarding the committee’s work.

In his home state of Ohio, Dr. Martensen is a member of the board of directors of the Ohio State Chiropractic Association (OSCA) and chairs the OSCA Council on Diagnostic Imaging.

Dr. Martensen lectures frequently on topics ranging from advanced imaging, MRI, CT, nuclear medicine, radiology, radiological physics, radiation safety and health to anatomy, pathophysiology, rehabilitation and active care. He is on postgraduate faculty of multiple chiropractic colleges and a frequent contributor of online CE education courses. Dr. Martensen also serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Chiropractic Medicine and Topics in Diagnostic Imaging and Advanced Imaging.

Dr. Steven Cordas, DO, MPH

Dr. Steven Cordas

Dr. Cordas graduated from Elizabethtown College with a BS in Science. He then attended the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and graduated as the salutatorian in 1964. After his internship, he completed a 3- year internal medicine residency in Dayton Ohio. He then moved to Texas as a general internist and served as chairman of the department of internal medicine at several area hospitals for over 20 years in the Fort Worth- Dallas area. He also was and remains a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of North Texas Health Science Center - Texas College of Osteopathic medicine. He was certified, after preceptorship, in Allergy and Immunology and in 1993 attended the Medical College of Wisconsin, where he received his Masters of Public Health in Occupational Medicine. He subsequently became certified in occupational medicine. He currently is in private practice specializing in allergy, occupational medicine, toxicology and internal medicine and serves as a consultant to a number of occupational medical clinics, the Texas Department of Insurance, the Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services, the Federal governement and the legal profession.

Dr. Ronald Steriti, ND, PhD

Dr. Ronald Steriti

Dr. Steriti is a graduate of Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine. His main interests are clinical nutrition and botanical medicine combined with classical homeopathy. His experience includes being a medical advisor for a dietary supplement company and senior course analyst (editor) for an online continuing education provider. Dr. R. Stephanie Powers, DN, ARNP, MSN, FNP-BC, CPAN

Dr. Powers received her Doctorate of Naturopathy degree from Clayton College of Natural Health in 2009. She is a second degree Reiki Healer and her practice includes Therapeutic Touch Energy Balancing and other modalities based on natural health and eastern principles. She is a student of Qigong (a Chinese system of combining postures, stretching, breathing and meditation with the intent of strengthening chi). In the western conventional field of medicine, Dr. Powers received her Masters of Science in Nursing from Florida Atlantic University in 1997 and is Board Certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner with the American Nurses Credentialing Center and state licensed as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner. Her earlier experiences included working as a Critical Care Nurse in the area of Post Anesthesia while achieving and maintaining National Certifications from American Society of Perianesthesia Nurses (ASPAN). She is a National member of The American College of Nurse Practitioners and a member of the Florida and National chapters of Post Anesthesia Nurses and Vascular Nurse Practitioners and completed all Provider course requirements for the ENA Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC). Dr. Powers is a Captain in the United States Naval Reserves.

Dr. David M. Brady, ND, DC, CCN, DACBN

Dr. Brady is a licensed Naturopathic Physician, Doctor of Chiropractic, Certified Clinical Nutritionist, and a Diplomate of the American Clinical Board of Nutrition. He presently is the Vice Provost of the Division of Health Sciences, the Director of the Human Nutrition Institute, and an Associate Professor of Clinical Sciences at the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut. He also serves as the Chief Medical Officer for Designs for Health, Inc., a technical consultant for Metametrix Clinical Laboratories and also maintains a private practice, Whole Body Medicine, in Trumbull, CT, specializing in “Functional, Nutritional and Metabolic Medicine”. Dr. Steven L. Weiner, MD, DC, DACBR

Dr. Weiner is a 1990 graduate of Northwestern Health Sciences University (Northwestern College of Chiropractic) where he earned his Doctor of Chiropractic degree. He completed a three-year residency in chiropractic radiology at Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCUHS) where he qualified to sit for the American Chiropractic Board of Radiology certification exam, earning his specialization diplomate (DACBR). Dr. Weiner served as Assistant Professor of Radiology at SCUHS and maintained a private radiological consultation practice. He returned to medical school at Ross University School of Medicine where he earned his Doctor of Medicine degree in 2010. He completed his internship in internal medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) and is currently a resident in the department of radiology, nuclear medicine section, at MCW and its affiliated hospitals including Froedtert Hospital, a large regional tertiary-care level-one trauma center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as well as the Veterans Administration Hospital, also in Milwaukee. Dr. Weiner has authored several articles in both chiropractic and medical journals and has given many post-graduate continuing education lectures on the topics of musculoskeletal imaging and radiological differential diagnosis. Dr. Weiner is a tennis and hockey enthusiast and makes his home in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.

Dr. Melanie Osterhouse, DC, DACBR

Dr. Melanie Osterhouse was the valedictorian of the National University of Health Sciences (formerly known as National College of Chiropractic) and was the recipient of the Joseph Janse Outstanding Graduate Award that year. She continued her education as a Logan College of Chiropractic resident and obtained board certification in chiropractic radiology (D.A.C.B.R.) in 2002. She became a full-time faculty member at Logan College of Chiropractic, teaching geriatrics, rheumatology, x-ray physics, and physical diagnosis. She had a radiology consulting practice for four years, reading plain film and MRI.

 

Dr. Osterhouse moved to Maryland and is currently a tenured full professor at the College of Southern Maryland where she teaches anatomy and physiology, nutrition, mathematics, and microbiology.

Dr. Ivo Waerlop, DC

Dr. Ivo Waerlop or “Dr Ivo” as most people call him, is a 1986 summa cum laude graduate of the New York Chiropractic College. He received his post-graduate neurology diplomate from Logan Chiropractic College; he became board certified in 1990. Dr Ivo works with a broad base of patients including Olympic level, professional and paraprofessional running, skiing and cycling athletes at his private practice in Dillon, Colorado. He is an adjunct faculty member for post graduate education with the National University of Health Sciences in Chicago, a life science faculty member of the Colorado Mountain College in Dillon, Colorado, and is on the post graduate faculty of Chirocredit.com, an online post graduate education center. He lectures nationally on foot-ankle and gait biomechanics, rehabilitation, acupuncture and beginning this fall, dry needling. He, along with Dr Shawn Allen authored the textbook: Pedographs and Gait Analysis: Clinical Applications and Pearls, along with numerous articles on lower extremity and gait mechanics. They also founded “The Gait Guys”, a national and internet presence gait information resource and consortium. Dr Ivo is an avid telemark skier, runner and cyclist (he has also been known to play bass in several bands on more than one occasion). He enjoys spending his downtime in the great outdoors of Colorado with his wife and 2 sons.

Dr. Virginia Norris Schafer, D.C., M.D., MBA

Dr. Schafer graduated from Life Chiropractic College in 1980 and has had several successful practices in Georgia and South Carolina. She specialized in treating fibromyalgia patients and wrote several papers and research abstracts dealing with this subject. She was also one of the first chiropractors to acquire, use and teach cold laser therapy all over the U.S.

 

Virginia graduated from medical school in 2002, where she was an assistant researcher for the Rheumatology department at Maricopa Hospital in Phoenix, AZ. She practiced integrated medicine with her M.D. husband until she retired to teach and write. She is currently an adjunct professor for several schools and specializes in continuing education for health care professionals.

 

Dr. Schafer is a member of the American Medical Writers Association, the Mississippi Writers Guild, the Delta Writers Association and the South Carolina Writers Workshop. She has also recently graduated from the Mississippi Development Authority’s Entrepreneur Pilot Program and has updated her Non Profit Leadership status. As a business person and writer, Dr. Schafer has written grants for many nonprofits and has been a successful fundraiser for many causes. Her various didactics and experiences have given her a broad base of educational material to share.

 

Dr. Virginia’s writings have been published in many books, newspapers, educational pamphlets and online resources. She has recently received an award for her research abstract; Regional Synchronization Method: Predicting Vertebral Misalignment Patterns to Provide a More Effective Treatment. Schafer is also completing the AMWA certificate program in Risk Management for Health Care Professionals and will soon publish a book that outlines a risk management strategy for Chiropractors.

 

Dr. Schafer is the CEO of a non-profit – Medical Organization for Relief and Education and President of a for- profit organization – Smart Doc Resource Network.

Dr. Shawn Allen

Dr. Shawn Allen is a 1995 graduate of the National Chiropractic College, now National University of Health Sciences (NUHS). He received his post-graduate orthopedics diplomate from NUHS. Dr Allen works with a broad base of patients including Olympic level, professional and paraprofessional running, football, triathlete and dance athletes at his private practice in Westmont, Illinois a suburb of Chicago. He lectures nationally on foot-ankle, gait biomechanics and orthopedics. Dr. Michalene Elliott, DC

Dr. Michalene Elliott, DC completed undergraduate studies at State University of New York at Fredonia and at Columbia University with dual degrees in economics and industrial engineering. She attended the University of Bridgeport College of Chiropractic where she graduated first in her class and summa cum laude. In addition to being an actively practicing chiropractor for 15 years, Dr. Elliott is experienced in medical economics having been employed by a major medical insurance company and several peer-review organizations. Her teaching experience includes physical diagnosis, pediatrics, infectious disease and numerous other areas. Dr. Elliott practices in Rochester, NY in a group practice with her husband.

Dr. Bryan A. Born, B.S., D.C.

Dr. Bryan Born graduated with honors from Parker College of Chiropractic in 1991, and has been in practice as a co-owner of Chiropractic Natural Health Associates together with his wife and father since then. In 1993 he was asked to develop and teach the pathology and pharmacology curriculum for a massage therapy institute in Michigan, which at the time was on the vanguard of education in the US for that profession. He went on to develop curriculum for schools from coast to coast, and authored three books, including a textbook for business methodologies for the massage therapist. His latest book was published in 2005. The Essential Massage Companion: Everything You Need to Know to Navigate Safely Through Today’s Drugs and Diseases is a 552 page reference guide that remains the only comprehensive text for both pathology and pharmaceutical contraindications specific to the practice of therapeutic massage. It contains a 16,000 word index, covering more than 500 diseases and 3,000 medications. An internationally recognized speaker on the subject, Dr. Born has lectured multiple times for the AMTA National Convention, the AMTA Teacher’s Conference, the AMTA Leadership Conference, the Canadian National Massage Convention, and 14 other state annual conventions. For more than eighteen years Dr. Karen Gardner Bagnell has diligently worked and studied the mechanisms of breech and transverse presentations, pregnancy and delivery. Dr. Karen Gardner Bagnell graduated from Life College in 1993.

 

Dr. Gardner Bagnell has guest lectured at The University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing and Chestnut Hill Hospital in Philadelphia on the importance of Chiropractic care during pregnancy, labor and the postpartum period. Most recently she was invited to speak at the American Association of Birth Centers (AABC) on Optimal Fetal Positioning at Penn State and will be speaking again for the AABC in the fall of 2011. She also spoke for the Florida Chiropractic Society on Pre-Natal Chiropractic care during their "Pediatric Extravaganza".

 

She has two practices; one is within the walls of a local birth center and cares for dozens of moms to be each and every week. Dr. Karen has also been invited to speak at the Philadelphia Conference for Midwifery Today Magazine, the Florida Chiropractic Society, and the American Association of Birth Centers to present her expertise to the midwifery and chiropractic professions. She is also continually featured in chiropractic, pregnancy and midwifery publications.

Dr. Monte Horne, DC

Dr. Monte Horne graduated from Southern California University of Health Sciences in 1985. His undergraduate study focused on chemistry and was followed by a research position with TIMET. After graduating from SCUHS he completed a three year study program in Chiropractic Orthopedics. Since that time he has treated patients and served as a chiropractic consultant. Dr. Horne is a certified in impairment ratings and functional capacity evaluations. He has served as a designated doctor for the Texas Workers Compensation system performing impairment ratings and return to work evaluations. He is published in JMPT and is currently authoring a text “Documentation and Navigating the Guidelines”. His special interests include rehabilitation, documentation, and forensics. Dr. Horne has performed numerous record reviews and serves as an expert witness for both plaintiff and defense.
